Cleethorpe Road flyover footbridge closure

by Steve Beasant on 17 September, 2014

A pedestrian footbridge in the Cleethorpe Road flyover in Grimsby will be closed from this week until the end of February next year for essential maintenance work to be carried out.

The access ramp that takes pedestrians over the railway line needs to be closed to keep the public and contractors safe while the bridge bearings are replaced.

Pedestrians are asked to take an alternative route using the Railway Street footbridge during the closure.

This major refurbishment of the bridge involves lifting the 18 span bridge to enable the existing bearings to be removed and new ones to be installed.

All work will be carried out under the bridge, and with exception to the span over the railway line, the bridge will remain open to vehicles.

There will be a contraflow traffic management system in place while the work on the railway line section of the bridge is carried out. A specific date for this part of the work has yet to be confirmed but is likely to be after Christmas.

There will be several short evening closures during the lifting process, which involves lifting the bridge by 10mm.

Once the bridge is raised it will be re-opened and work will continue underneath the bridge. During the lifting process, diversions will be in place.

The works are being managed on behalf of the council by Cofely, who would like to apologise for any disruption caused.
