Keep warm at home this winter

by Steve Beasant on 26 November, 2014

If you’ll find it hard to keep your home warm this winter – contact the Council now and see how we can help.

There are many ways the council and its regeneration services partner Cofely can keep your home warm and safe.

The well-established energy efficiency scheme, SHEEP (South Humber Energy Efficiency Partnership), has entered into a new partnership to offer great discounts on home insulation. Homeowners and private tenants can now have their loft insulated for just £149 and cavity walls insulated for free, subject to a survey.

SHEEP was launched by North and North East Lincolnshire councils in 2001 and has since helped more than 13,000 homeowners and tenants make their properties warmer and healthier places to live.

New figures released reveal that nearly half of Britain’s homes do not have adequate basic insulation and are throwing away at least £100 a year in wasted energy payments.

Other schemes are also available – to find out more about the support on offer call the Home Energy Team on 01472 324782.

More than 12,000 households in North Lincolnshire are living in fuel poverty, according to the most recent figures from North East Lincolnshire Council.

Figures for 2013 show the total number of fuel poverty households in the borough to be 12,003, or 16.8 per cent of North East Lincolnshire households. In 2011, the figure was 13,641 or 19.7 per cent.

It comes as the Council is urging people to get in touch if they are worried that they’ll be suffering in a cold home as the temperatures drop.

If you are, or you know someone else who is, please contact the Home Energy Team now to see how we can help before the cold weather sets in.
