The UK’s wind farms generated a record amount of power at the weekend, according to the National Grid.
On Saturday 18 October, wind farms generated 6,372 MW of power, the highest amount on National Grid records.
This produced almost 20 per cent of the UK’s electricity.
The milestone was followed by further news from the National Grid that on Tuesday 21 October, the UK’s wind farms generated more power than nuclear power stations.
The National Grid said the increase in power generated by wind farms was due to the recent windy weather conditions.
We have already doubled the amount of energy generated by off-shore wind farms and Britain is on track to beat our renewable electricity targets for 2020.
