Time’s running out to claim business growth money

by Steve Beasant on 31 July, 2014

There’s just over a week left for local businesses to apply for their share of government grants from the Regional Growth Fund supported Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.

Since this round of funding opened, more than 100 companies have been awarded over £15.5m million government cash, with many more projects currently being considered. Grants so far awarded range from as little as just over £5,000 to million pound plus awards to help companies grow.

Eligible companies are able to apply for money to help with premises expansion projects, purchase of capital assets, research and development and training and apprenticeship opportunities.

However, as companies need to spend any money awarded on a project before 28 February 2015, they are being asked to get their ideas and applications in quickly so they have time to implement their project.

Companies are being asked to submit Expressions of Interest by midnight on 7 August, with final applications due in by midnight on 29 August.

‘Local services’, however, are not eligible for funding. This means local service industries who supply goods and services for a local market. Examples of this include shops, garages, hospitality, childcare and the health and beauty sector.

Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growing the Humber RGF programme is a £30m scheme to help grow businesses in the Humber area, supported by accountable body North East Lincolnshire Council.

It is designed to unlock projects that have the potential for job creation and can quickly deliver tangible economic outcomes, through providing additional investment.

David Kilburn, Chair of the Humber LEP’s Investment Board, said: “It’s gratifying to see so many projects get underway creating an estimated 1300 jobs so far.

“We meet regularly to assess projects looking for those that through providing additional investment can create jobs, such as through part funding machinery.

“There is still some money to bid for and I would urge businesses who think they have a project that could be supported by the fund to pick up the phone straight away or fill in an expression of interest form as the money allotted to this year needs to see projects completed by February.”
