Mike Hancock rejects proposals set out by Beecroft report

by Steve Beasant on 4 June, 2012

Liberal Democrat MP for Portsmouth South Mike Hancock made it clear last week that he is opposed to the Beecroft proposals, the set of suggestions laid down by Mr Beecroft which suggest that employers should be allowed to ‘fire at will’, sacking people without being legally obliged to explain the decision. The proposals effectively make it easier for employers to let staff go.

Mike Hancock has expressed strong disagreement to the proposals, stating to concerned constituents last week:

‘I am completely against the proposals, and after spending my entire political career campaigning for employee rights I will do all I can to make sure they do not become law’.

‘Worker rights were hard fought for and not easily gained, and to give them away because of an economic downturn caused by bad management of the economy is completely unacceptable.’
