A “FRESH START FOR THE EAST MARSH”; WORK IS DUE COMMENCE ON THE DEMOLITION OF 100 PROPERTIES IN GUILDFORD STREET

DEMOLITION work on Grimsby’s Guildford Street will officially begin next month – heralding a new dawn for the troubled area.

As reported, North East Lincolnshire Council has purchased 100 homes on the street, which it will begin knocking down on Tuesday.

The area between Wellington Street and Cope Street will be closed to the public when work begins – though the rest of Guildford Street will remain open – with the works due to completed in the summer.

The demolition will be carried out by CLS Civil Engineering Ltd – the same firm which created the Cleethorpes Play Trail – which will also provide 24-hour security.

CLS Civil Engineering Ltd attended this weeks meeting of East Marsh Involve and residents welcomed the plans for the demolition, and only a few concerns were raised about the demolition process. However, residents agreed to make Guildford Street a neighbourhood priority and this will be raised at all neghbourhood tasking meetings.

A spokesman for NELC said: “The project also includes improvements to other sections of Guildford Street – between Cope Street and Oxford Street – including rendering to external walls, the replacement of windows and new boundary walls.

“We are also making ongoing environmental improvements.”

NELC will also be launching the Victor Street facelift, which will see homes on the street being rendered, and doors and windows being replaced with new uPVC fixtures.

Residents will also be invited to have their say on Homezone plans, which will look into ways the streets can be turned into valued public spaces.
